Resurrection Weekend leads up to today, Resurrection Sunday. But for some, this day is about the Easter Bunny, Easter eggs and Easter egg hunts.

Most people understand that Easter Sunday has something to do with the resurrection of Jesus, but don't know how it relates to eggs and bunnies. Well, in order to make Christianity more attractive to non-Christians, the ancient Roman Catholic Church mixed the celebration of Jesus' resurrection with celebrations that involved spring fertility rituals which were the source of the egg and bunny traditions.

The Bible in Matthew 28:1; Mark 16:2,9; Luke 24:1 and John 20:1,19 makes it clear that Jesus was resurrected on the first day of the week, Sunday. Jesus' resurrection is certainly worthy of being celebrated but we shouldn't allow the fun and games to distract our attention from what this day is truly about - Jesus Christ came to earth and died, the infinite payment for the penalty of our sins. He paid the price so that we would not have to.

And then Jesus' resurrection from the dead demonstrated that we can indeed be promised an eternal home in Heaven by receiving Jesus as our Savior. Jesus' death and resurrection provided for my salvation, and for yours. Come and celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on this Resurrection Sunday with us...Welcome Home!

See you next Sunday (Easter Sunday) morning, if the Lord says the same and delays His coming.
