What a wonderful day, Jesus, that you have given to us today. The sun to warm our heart. The rain to water our souls. The latter rain to bless us again, and again, and again. We have so many requests of You but You already know them all, and we would never think of asking You for anything until we first thank You for all things and give You the highest praise for everything. And so we do thank You. We do praise You. We do exalt You. We do extol You, because this is the day of worship and praise. And for very good reasons:

  • We worship You because of Who You are. In order to give You true worship, we must truly know You. We must be in a mode of seeking Your face daily.

  • We praise You because of what You have done. In order to give You true praise, we must know that You are the One Who “does” and therefore we must know You and must yet be in a mode of seeking Your face daily.

(Psalms 27:1-9)

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. One thing have I desired of the LORD, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock. And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the LORD. Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me. When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.

We feel that we are constantly and consistently seeking His face but what we truly seek is not His face. We seek financial help from Him. We seek emotional relief from Him. We seek deliverance for our children and we seek this deliverance from Him. We seek a ministry-following from Him. We seek a job from Him. We seek power from Him. We seek long hair, good eyesight, strong fingernails, anointing, a better car, stylish clothes, a position and a name, a bigger house, free from bondage, designer accessories, a great vacation, influence, more friends, a spouse, children…FROM HIM. We seek a way from Him. We seek a way out from Him. We seek FROM Him, but God says seek-ye-My-FACE. We must learn to commune face to face with Him.

As a trainer, speaker, and facilitator I traveled much before my daughter Kenya was born. Then after she was born, I never left her. I always traveled with her. So much so that by the time she was entering kindergarten she had been to more than half of the States in the USA. After she entered kindergarten, she couldn’t travel any longer so I had to leave her at home with Daddy or with an older sibling or with her grandmother. Whenever I would travel and had to leave Kenya, I would call her every day. I desired to see her, face to face, but, I left her. I wasn’t seeking her face, because if I was, I would get to steppin’ and fly back to where I left her - but I called her.

When we say we desire to see God’s face and when we say we desire to commune with Him face to face, do we really mean it? Because, until we turn, feel our way, reach after Him, do our first works again, retrace our steps, we will never truly be seeking Him. Until we pray and truly seek Him, we will not find Him

(Psalm 63:1, 2a, 7a)

O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, To see thy power and thy glory, Because thou hast been my help.

(Proverbs 1:28)

They shall call upon me but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me.

(Matthew 7:7)

But ask, and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find, knock and it shall be opened unto you.

(Hebrews 11:6)

He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

In order to feel after Him we must position ourselves in His proximity. We must be in that spiritual realm where He is at: a fasting realm; a praying realm; a consecrated realm; a dedicated realm; a sanctification realm; a hot realm; a steadfast realm; a straightway and narrow realm; a tight but it’s right realm; a 99 ½ just won’t do realm; a Christ-like realm; a HOLINESS realm. We can’t be mediocre and seek Him. We can’t be lukewarm and seek Him. We can’t have the mind of “it don’t take all that” and seek Him. We can’t be half stepping and seek Him. We can’t leave God, do it our own way, and be yet seeking Him. Remember, I couldn’t be in Washington DC or New York City and seek my daughter, Kenya. I had to retrace my steps, go back to Seattle, Washington, and be in the vicinity - the realm of her, to feel after her, in order to truly seek her.

(2 Chronicles 7:14)

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

When we find ourselves far from His reach, when we find ourselves far from His touch, and when we find ourselves in a strange land, a place in which we know He doesn’t reside - then, before we seek His face we must do our first works again – in order to find Him. What an opportunity there is to lie out before Him, to open up to Him, to allow Him to tell you about you and what you must do to be saved. What an opportunity there is to seek Him and allow Him to touch us because we have done our first works again – because we have turned from whatever it is that was keeping us so busy that we didn’t take time to position ourselves before Him.

Yes, what an opportunity He is giving right now to answer Him: “Thy - face - Lord - will - I - seek” - that’s the HOLINESS answer!

See you next Sunday morning, if the Lord says the same and delays His coming.
