HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY MORNING - Good Morning...
Deuteronomy 8:13b tells us to know that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord. Psalms 119:11 says that I have laid up God’s Word in my heart so that I wouldn’t sin against Him. John 8:31 speaks of Jesus saying to those who had believed in Him that if we really are abiding in His Word and holding fast to His teachings and living in accordance with them, then we are truly His disciples. John 17:17 tells us that we are sanctified, purified, consecrated, separated for Him, made holy by the Truth, and that God’s Word is Truth. We know that we are to be doers of the Word and not hearers only but in order for us to be doers of the Word, we are to read it and to know it.
In II Kings the 21st chapter the Northern Kingdom had gone into captivity because of lack of knowledge and therefore they really lacked fear of God. And now Manasseh is king And he, Manasseh, Hezekiah’s son, did evil in the sight of the LORD, after the idolatrous practices of the heathen nations whom the Lord cast out before Israel. Then Manasseh died and his son, Amon, became king and Amon was twenty-two years old when he began his two-year reign in Jerusalem. But he also did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done.
Moving on in chapter 22 we see that Josiah was only 8 years old when he became king and He did right in the sight of the Lord and walked in all the ways of David his forefather, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left. I began to think, how did he, Josiah, a product of a grandfather who did evil, a product of a father who did evil - how was Josiah able to do right in the sight of the Lord? Then in reading, and running references, and studying the Word in II Chronicles 34 I found out that the king began to seek the Lord because the prophet, Zephaniah, came and proclaimed that it is time to seek the Lord. The king heard Him and he began to seek God and he began to purge Judea of all of the high places - those places that were used to worship and sacrifice to idols.
The house of the Lord was in disarray and the house of the Lord needed repair because Amon did evil and because Manasseh did evil - and this evil caused Judah to sin. Specific men went into the house of God and repaired it, and cleaned it up, and cleaned out the house. Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord! Hilkiah the high priest gave the book to Shaphan the scribe, and Shaphan read it.
The Word of God was lost to the people. It got lost in the house of the Lord and therefore there was no knowledge of God in the land. The Word of God was lost. They didn’t have it, so they didn’t know what was right. They didn’t have a guide, they didn’t have a map, they didn’t have the Word of the Lord because it was lost in the house of the Lord. They didn’t know what was right and so they did evil. But we are without excuse or reason. We know that every Word of God is right. And in order for it to benefit me, I have to have it … not just in my hand but I have to hide it in my heart! Isaiah said to seek from the book of the Lord and read it. because every word of God is right, we are each to go, and to find it, and to seek after it, and to read it, and to study it and apply it to our lives.
We must, each of us, seek Him through His Word, and let every Word of God have free course and dwell in us richly to reach HOLINESS.
See you next Sunday morning, if the Lord says the same and delays His coming.
